Travel Goods are Multi-dimensional
Travel goods often live in the space between fashion and industrial design.
I’ve worked in fashion for a long time, but I don't really think about luggage as a fashion product.
In some ways, I think it's closer to furniture.
You're hopefully not buying a new suitcase every season. You might only buy a few over your lifetime. So your decisions become more measured - around color and longevity and overall design.
But luggage isn't purely an industrial design exercise either.
It still has to communicate something about the person carrying it. And for a fashion or lifestyle brand entering travel, it still needs to feel unmistakably like them.
That's the intersection we tend to live in at Form Space NYC, Inc.
We bring the aesthetic awareness and brand understanding together with the functional, technical and manufacturing thinking required to make a really good travel product.
Not fashion for fashion's sake and not engineering for engineering's sake.
The right amount of each for the product, brand and customer.
The expertise you bring in should match the kind of product you're actually trying to make. Thinking about expanding into travel goods? Would love to hear what you're working on - drop me a note!
