PD, or PD?
Inside the Ghurka Connecticut factory
PD and PD. Same initials. But Product Design and Product Development have very different expertise in the world of physical products.
While they work in parallel, they’re certainly not the same thing.
Product Design is about vision and intent.
What should this product be?
How does it feel, function, communicate?
What makes it differentiated and ownable?
Product Development is about execution and reality.
How does this get made?
What factory can build it?
How do materials behave in production?
What happens to cost, tolerances, timelines?
Design works to set the direction, and Development makes it viable.
We collaborate across every phase, and often jump into each other’s lanes (in the best way), but we each bring deep expertise. And here’s the thing: product developers are some of the most underrated people in this industry!
Their work isn’t always visible in a launch image.
But without them, there is no launch.
Great products happen when design ambition and development rigor move together. At Form Space, that's our foundation.
