Collaboration is key
I’ve been thinking lately about how collaborative good product really is.
No single role carries the whole outcome.
Designers don’t need to be manufacturing experts, but someone in the process does need to speak both languages. That’s where Product Development becomes essential, connecting design intent with manufacturing realities, sourcing decisions, cost implications, and the expertise of the people actually making the product.
The best results I’ve seen come from that partnership.
I’ve felt this most clearly in accessories and leather goods, where design choices, material sourcing, and construction shape one another from the very beginning.
